You've read our receipts. Here's ours — itemized, like everything else.
This site's entire thesis is that everything free has a price and somebody always pays it. It would be a strange thing to build that site and then pretend it fell out of the sky at no cost. So, in the spirit of every verdict this site hands out:
What this site costs
- Hosting: $0. It's a static site on a free hosting tier. Genuinely free at our size — the host's business model is selling bigger plans to bigger sites. (Classic loss leader. I see you. I accept.)
- Domain: about the price of a pizza, once a year.
- Time: the real cost. Research, writing, fact-checking, posting. Hours every week, paid by me, at the going rate of evenings and weekends.
What we take from you
- Ads: none. Trackers: none. Affiliate links: none. Email capture: none.
- I don't even know you visited. I like it that way.
If you want to say thanks
You never have to. The content stays free either way, forever, and there's no premium tier hiding behind this paragraph. But time isn't free, and if you've gotten value here and feel like closing the loop, here's how — in order of what it costs you:
- Costs nothing: follow us and share a receipt with someone who needs it. Every share is worth more to this project than a dollar.
- Costs a coffee: leave a tip. Tip jar link coming shortly.
- Costs a mug: merch is coming — hats and mugs that say things like "NOT FREE" on them, which I find funny. If you buy one, you'll actually get a thing, because nothing's free and I'm not asking for free money.
Where the money goes
Every dollar this site ever brings in — tips, merch profit, all of it — goes to one place: a special needs trust for my daughter, Sienna.
Sienna is sixteen. She has autism and cerebral palsy, and she'll need care for the rest of her life — help with meals, mobility, bathing, the everyday things most of us never think about. My biggest project isn't this website — it's making sure her future care is secure no matter what happens. This site is one small brick in that wall.
Two honest disclosures, because that's the house style:
- I'm not a charity, and contributions are not tax-deductible. This is a tip jar with a purpose, not a 501(c)(3).
- The formal trust arrangements are being set up properly with professional guidance. Until everything is finalized, funds are held aside for Sienna and nothing is spent. When it's done, this page will say so — and I'll publish what comes in and where it goes.
